Grape Shake (Frozen Grape Smoothie)

Grape Shake (Frozen Grape Smoothie)

A Filipino street-style frozen grape shake that blends whole frozen grapes with ice-cold water and honey to create a naturally sweet, slushy drink - lighter than a smoothie but more substantial than juice, with a pure grape flavor that shines through its minimal ingredients.

Equipment

  • High-powered blender (Blender) Essential for creating the smooth, slushy consistency
  • Measuring cups For accurate liquid measurements
  • Sharp knife (kutsilyo) Optional, for halving large grapes
  • Fine-mesh strainer (salaan) Optional, for extra smooth texture
  • Glass containers (Baso) For serving

Ingredients

  • 2 cups frozen seedless grapes 2 tasang frozen na ubas
  • cups ice-cold water 1¼ tasang malamig na tubig
  • 2 tablespoons honey 2 kutsarang pulot-pukyutan
  • Optional garnish: fresh grapes and mint leaves

Instructions

  • Begin by washing your grapes thoroughly and removing them from their stems. Place them in a freezer-safe container and freeze for at least 4 hours or overnight until completely frozen at 0°F (-18°C).
  • When you're ready to make your shake, take out your blender and add 2 cups of the frozen grapes. Pour in 1¼ cups of ice-cold water and drizzle 2 tablespoons of honey over the grapes. Blend everything on high speed for 1-2 minutes until the grapes are completely broken down and the mixture is smooth.
  • The consistency should be like a slushy – easily drinkable but still thick. If it's too thick to drink easily, add a little more cold water, one tablespoon at a time, blending between additions until you reach your desired consistency.
  • Pour your grape shake immediately into two chilled glasses. If you'd like, garnish with a few fresh grapes and mint leaves. Serve right away with a wide straw while the drink is at its perfect slushy consistency.

Tips from Lola's Kitchen

  • Choose sweet, ripe grapes for the best flavor
  • Freeze grapes in a single layer to prevent clumping
  • If grapes are very sweet, reduce honey to 1 tablespoon
  • For extra smooth texture, strain through a fine-mesh strainer
  • Chill glasses before serving for optimal temperature
